1) The die material shall have good cutting performance

Cutting processing is one of the main processing methods in plastic mold injection molding plants. Good cutting performance of mold materials is the basis for ensuring mold processing quality.

Generally, the hardness shall not exceed 28-32HRC. It is easy to obtain lower surface roughness and make the tool have a longer service life.

For pre hardened steel, although the hardness is about 30-40HRC, its cutting performance is still quite good.

2) It shall have good plastic processing performance

For the multi cavity plastic mould with small size, the female die or male die can be formed by plastic method. At this time, attention should be paid to the selection of mold materials with good plasticity. If the cold extrusion method is used for forming, the die blank hardness shall be lower than 135HBS and the elongation shall be greater than 35%.

3) It shall have good electric machining performance

Good electrical machining performance usually means that under normal electrical machining process conditions, the mold material surface does not produce abnormal hardening layer or the abnormal hardening layer is very thin.

When the plastic mold forming parts are prepared to adopt the electric machining method, the mold materials with good electric machining performance shall be selected, which can avoid adding polishing or tempering processes, and can better ensure that the machining accuracy of the mold cavity is not affected by abnormal hardening layers.

4) It shall have good heat treatment performance

Including hardenability, hardenability and small heat treatment deformation. These properties have an important impact on the mechanical properties of mold parts and the molding quality of plastic products.

5) It shall have good surface treatment performance

The surface treatment such as chrome plating, carburizing, nitriding and carbonitriding on the surface wall of the mold cavity is to improve the wear resistance of the surface wall of the mold cavity or strengthen the surface wall of the mold cavity, so as to improve the service life of the plastic mold. At this time, it is required that the mold materials should have good chemical affinity with the media used for surface treatment, so that they have good surface treatment performance.
